How to put videos on separate tracks

Separate tracks or consecutive clips?

Clips placed one after another on the same row play in sequence. Clips on different rows can occupy the same time, which is useful when a second shot should cover part of a longer video.

Adding several files to one row appends them in sequence; it does not put each file on its own track. For separate rows, import into a different row or move a clip there.

1. Add the videos to separate rows

1. Import your first video.Choose the + inside an empty video row and select a video from your device. NeoCut places it on that row and makes an empty video row available underneath.
2. Choose another video row.Use its + to import the second video. To create another row yourself, choose Track in the timeline toolbar, then Media track in the Add a track menu.
3. Check the timing.A video added to an empty row starts at the beginning. A video added to an occupied row starts after that row's last clip. Move it if you want a different start time.

Already imported a file? Select the destination row using its icon on the left, open Media and use the file's Add to timeline plus button to reuse it.

2. Move a clip to the right place

Use Snap in the timeline toolbar when you want clip edges to line up. Leave enough empty space on the destination row for the whole clip. See the mobile editing guide for more about working on a smaller screen.

3. Check which picture is in front

When two video clips overlap in time, a full-frame picture can cover the other. In NeoCut, the visual track lower in the timeline appears in front of the visual tracks above it. Move the playhead into the overlap to check the result.

To change that order, drag the track's icon on the left up or down. On a phone, hold the icon before dragging. Reordering a track changes its place in the stack without moving its clips in time.

Separate rows do not automatically make a split screen. Pro's reframing and creative tools give you further control over the composition; the feature guide explains those options.

4. Balance the sound

A covered video can still contribute audio. Play the overlap and listen for doubled speech or competing soundtracks. Select each clip and adjust Volume: on desktop, find it in the clip's Audio menu; on a phone, use the clip action buttons. Use Mute when you only need that clip's picture.

If a clip will not stay where you drop it

• Check the lock: unlock the source and destination tracks.
• Check the row type: a video belongs on a Media row; audio files use Audio rows.
• Check the gap: overlapping clips need separate rows. An invalid drop returns the clip to its previous position.
• Check the gesture: on touchscreens, hold before dragging; on desktop, grab the clip body rather than a trim handle.

5. Save the edit and export

Open Project settings and choose Save project + media. Keep that backup to resume with Open project, including on another device. Your account restores Pro access; it does not sync your media.
